8. Long lines don’t necessarily mean good speakers and short lines don’t necessarily mean bad speakers.

7. Don’t make eye contact with anyone on the street wearing a t-shirt that has lewd language on it. Just sayin’…

6. Casinos are built to turn you around and confuse you so that you can NEVER. LEAVE.

5. There are lots of people who bring babies to casinos…it’s strange to me.

4. The only thing more expensive than a small bottle of water…is a large bottle made out of gold.

3. Meeting new and talented people is incredibly inspiring.

2. Photographers that live half way across the country have no problem sharing tips and tricks. You know, ’cause you’re no real threat. :P

1. WPPI is by far one of the best professional experiences I’ve ever had as a photographer.

These are the things I usually say when photographing a newly married couple. It can be surprisingly hard to get the happy bride and groom to loosen up for the camera and just enjoy the moment, because sometimes the joy of that moment is lost to the discomfort of being photographed.

This was never the case with Leah and Corey.

I had so much fun watching the pure love they share through the lens, and I never once had to direct them on showing affection. There was so much love and laughter that afternoon, and both their energy and chemistry were so easy to capture. What a shining testament to true love!

Corey and Leah had decided to elope, taking only the fewest of friends as witnesses. As an eloper myself, I couldn’t have been more happy for them. They decided to forgo the stress of a wedding day in exchange of the commitment of a lifetime.

But what I love most about these guys is that they didn’t let eloping stop them from getting some fun and fabulous wedding photos. When they came back to Nashville, they called me up saying they wanted to get back into their wedding garb and commemorate their love and newly-joined personalities in a way that sometimes only photos can capture.

I was just amazed at how totally at peace she is with herself! High school girls are often worried about how their hair looks, if their makeup is right, and if the boy they like likes them back. But Hannah is something else, let me tell you. This girl knows exactly what she likes, and she’s not afraid to say it.

That spirit came through in every photo we took, too. It wasn’t hard at all to catch the intelligence, life, and maturity in this girl. She’s the true picture of beauty…inside and out.

It’s incredible to look back through the past two years and see the changes–to watch as he forms his own little personality as the months go by. Catching that growth, not just physically but also emotionally and intellectually, in a photograph is really kind of a miracle.

It’s not always easy to get kids to loosen up and just be themselves when there’s a camera in their face, but Jackson is always ready with a big smile. Every time I click the shutter, I know I’m catching this kid just like he is–happy, friendly, and cute as can be.

Kristen and Josh Snyder were a delight to work with. Though on the wedding day we had a spot of bad weather which halted our ability to take the photos Kristen wanted after the ceremony, they wisely decided that it would be a benefit to do some post wedding day photos instead.

The day we choose (after their honeymoon where they got some great tans!) turned out to be one of the most beautiful days of the season. I couldn’t have been more pleased! Here’s a small sampling from that shoot.

So to say that it’s a joy to work with someone containing those qualities is an extreme understatement. Every time I’m around Bralyn, I always leave with a smile on my face!

Ok…so…I don’t have a dog in this fight of ‘firsts.’

But it was still a great time! He’s absolutely precious and growing like a weed! I’m excited for the next photo shoot just so that I can compare these photos with newer ones.

Needless to say, we knew right away that we were a great fit!

The day was perfect, the food was outstanding, and the company was rockin’.

Congrats you two and I wish you many, many years of happiness that rival the joy you experienced on your wedding day!

For me, that person is Santa Claus. Seriously. When I was 5, I met His Royal Redness at the Ft. Wayne, Indiana Glenbrook mall and I was dutifully impressed. His belly really did jiggle like a bowl full of jelly and his breath smelled like peppermints and snow. Is it weird that I sniffed?

What does Santa have to do with my super amazing friend, Charity? Well, for some reason, Charity isn’t nearly as impressed with Santa as the rest of us (‘cause I know all of ya’ll love him too, right?). She has this fascination with Frosty The Snowman. I know, right? Weird.

I forgive her, of course, ‘cause she’s so pretty and I like to take her pictures. But it will forever be something ‘between us.’ Such a shame.

I love you, Charity. :)

In all seriousness, this chick is one talented filly (I don’t know why I typed ‘filly’…but after I did, it made me laugh enough to keep it). Not only has she already been cast as the starring (as well as supporting) in many shorts films, but she is always my number 1 to go to whenever I need a talented and professional photo model. Her elegance and grace never disappoints.
